1. Washing Hair

Frequency:
Washing 2 times a week is usually enough for most tweens, unless they have particularly oily hair. Over-washing can strip natural oils and cause dryness.

Shampoo:
Use a mild shampoo designed for children or tweens. This helps prevent hair from drying out or becoming irritated.

Conditioner:
A conditioner, applied mainly to the ends, will help keep hair soft and manageable. Avoid applying too much conditioner and never apply on the scalp, especially if they have fine or oily hair.

2. Hair Care Products

  • Choose products that are free from harsh ingredients.

  • Opt for gentle formulations for young hair. Consider using a conditioner to help with knots, especially if the hair is thick or curly.

  • Avoid heavy styling gels or creams that can weigh hair down and cause buildup.

3. Drying Hair

  • After washing, gently pat the hair dry with a towel rather than rubbing it, as wet hair is more prone to breakage.

  • Tweens with curly or wavy hair should avoid brushing their hair while it’s wet. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle gently.

4. Brushing and Combing

  • Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush with flexible bristles to gently detangle hair. Start from the tips and work your way up to minimize breakage.

  • Teach them not to tug or pull too hard when combing through knots, and be gentle around the scalp.

5. Scalp Care

  • Ensure the scalp is kept clean but not overly scrubbed. A gentle scalp massage while shampooing can stimulate circulation without causing irritation.
